Readymade Curtains
For curtains that hang perfectly, it's important to measure your windows accurately first to ensure a correct fit. Curtain Wonderland's ready made curtains come in pairs, in set sizes - remember, measurements shown are per curtain, not per pair.
Before you start:
- Get a friend to help – it's easier with two!
- Even when windows look the same size, they often aren't - so measure every window individually
- Use a wide blade steel tape measure
- Sketch the basic shape of your window, and its distance from the floor and ceiling, and write in measurements as you go
Heading and Drops
The length of your curtains will be determined by your drop, and by your heading style.
Drop
- Do you want your curtains to finish at the windowsill, below the sill, or to the floor?
Heading
- Pinch pleat, eyelet or tab top? Different headers will hang or pull differently and affect the finishing length of your curtains.
Pinch Pleat Heading
Drop
- If using a curtain track, measure from 0.5cm above the top of the track, to where you want the curtain to finish
- If using a curtain pole, measure from the 'eye' of the small metal ring at the bottom of each curtain ring, to where you want the curtain to finish
Width
- Measure the track or pole width (excluding the finials) – not the window
- If you have a track with a centre overlap, measure the total width of the track, plus the overlap size
Eyelet and Tab Top Heading
Drop
- Measure from the top of the pole (where the ring would sit) to where you want the curtain to finish
Width
- Measure the pole width between the finials – not the window
Blind
Measuring windows isn't difficult, but needs to be done carefully and accurately to ensure your new blinds fit perfectly.
- Even when windows look the same size, they often aren't – so measure every window individually
- Use a wide blade steel tape measure
- Things like handles, bars and the depth of a window can affect the fit of a blind, so take these into account
- Round measurements off to the nearest millimeter (mm)
- Always indicate the WIDTH measurement first, then the DROP
- Check and double check all measurements
Decide if your blinds will be fitted inside (recess fit) or outside the window frame (face fit). For a recess fit, measure the INSIDE edges of the window, left to right.
For a face fit, measure across the window face or architrave, allowing for any overhang.
